Nintendo has officially unveiled Xenoblade Genesis, the next major entry in the Xenoblade role-playing game franchise, during its June 9 Nintendo Direct presentation.

The game was announced with a debut trailer that offered a first look at the upcoming title and confirmed that it will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

The reveal marked one of the notable announcements from the showcase and introduced what Nintendo described as “a new beginning for the series.”

Developed by Monolith Soft, the Xenoblade franchise has become one of Nintendo’s most established RPG properties over the past decade. The series is known for its expansive science-fiction fantasy settings, story-driven adventures and real-time combat systems.

The most recent mainline instalment, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, was released in 2022 and later received the Future Redeemed expansion in 2023.

While Nintendo has yet to provide extensive details about the project, the trailer suggests Xenoblade Genesis will feature a new cast of characters and a fresh setting rather than continuing the storyline of the original trilogy directly.

The company has not announced specific gameplay features, combat mechanics or a precise release date beyond its 2027 launch window.

However, Nintendo's description of the title indicates that it is intended to serve as a new starting point for the franchise rather than a direct sequel under the Xenoblade Chronicles numbering system.

The announcement follows the conclusion of story arcs explored across the first three numbered Xenoblade Chronicles entries and their associated expansions.

Future Redeemed, released in 2023, connected several narrative threads from across the series, leading to speculation among players about the franchise’s future direction.

With Xenoblade Genesis now confirmed, the series is set to enter Nintendo’s next console generation on Switch 2.

Further details are expected to be revealed ahead of the game's planned release in 2027.
