Nintendo has officially announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, confirming that the classic adventure will return on Switch 2 in 2026.
The reveal took place during Nintendo’s June 9 Direct presentation, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding a potential modern remake of the Nintendo 64 title.
The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer offering the first look at the updated version of the game.
The footage showcased enhanced visuals and featured a brief scene of young Link sleeping in his treehouse before introducing elements of the adventure that made the original release one of Nintendo’s most recognised titles.
Nintendo confirmed that players will once again take control of Link as he travels across Hyrule in an effort to stop Ganondorf and prevent the kingdom from falling into darkness.
While story details remain largely unchanged based on the trailer, the company has not yet revealed how closely the remake will follow the original game in terms of gameplay, content, or additional features.
No specific launch date has been announced, with Nintendo only confirming a 2026 release window for the title.
Originally released on the Nintendo 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has remained one of the most influential entries in the long-running Zelda franchise.
Over the years, it has frequently appeared in discussions among fans regarding Nintendo titles they would most like to see remade for modern hardware.
Nintendo has not yet disclosed further details regarding gameplay systems, expanded content, or potential changes to iconic locations and characters from the original release.
Additional information is expected to be shared closer to launch as development of the remake continues ahead of its planned arrival in 2026.
