Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams has opened up about her relationship with actor Paul Mescal, revealing that she once worried a healthy and stable romance could impact her ability to write music.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Abrams reflected on how her personal life has evolved since the release of her 2024 album The Secret of Us. The artist admitted she initially feared that feeling emotionally secure might affect the creative energy that had previously fuelled her songwriting.

According to Abrams, many of her earlier experiences with relationships were marked by uncertainty, which often inspired her work. As her relationship with Mescal developed into a supportive and stable partnership, she questioned whether that sense of security could reduce her motivation to create new music.

The singer explained that the concern was significant enough to make her reconsider how she approached songwriting. However, she credited longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner with helping her shift her perspective. Dessner encouraged Abrams to focus on exploring her emotions more deeply rather than relying on external turmoil as creative inspiration.

Abrams also spoke warmly about spending time with Mescal while he was filming Hamnet in London. She described the experience of watching him work on a major creative project as inspiring and said being around that artistic environment felt “magical.”

The couple were first linked in June 2024 after being spotted together in London. Since then, they have largely kept their relationship private despite growing public interest.

Abrams is now preparing for the release of her upcoming album, Daughter From Hell, which is scheduled to arrive on July 17. The project marks her next major release as she continues to balance a flourishing music career with a high-profile relationship.
