Amy Adams calls 'Love Island' her 'personal nightmare'
'That show’s really fun to watch, but it gives me a lot of anxiety,' Adams said

Amy Adams has admitted that while she enjoys watching Love Island, the hit reality dating series also gives her intense anxiety, to the point where she describes it as her “personal nightmare.”
The Oscar-nominated actress made the comments during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she discussed her viewing habits and shared her humorous but candid thoughts on the long-running reality franchise.
Adams explained that although she finds Love Island entertaining, she could never imagine taking part in the show herself. She pointed to the format’s social intensity and environment as major deterrents, joking that everyday elements of the villa setup would be overwhelming for her.
“That show’s really fun to watch, but it gives me a lot of anxiety because it’s like my personal nightmare,” Adams said. “Strangers. Socialising. Bikinis. Sun.”
The actress also highlighted one aspect of the series she finds particularly surprising, the lack of shade in the villa. She joked that she would constantly be concerned about contestants’ sun exposure, adding that she would likely be running around applying sunscreen to everyone.
“There’s just, like, no shade,” she said. “I would just be running around with zinc oxide being like, ‘You’re looking a little crispy!’”
Despite her reluctance to ever appear on the show, Adams confirmed she is still an active viewer, even if she is slightly behind on the current season. She said she enjoys the drama and entertainment value but prefers to remain firmly on the outside looking in.
Adams also joked that her instinct to look after contestants’ wellbeing might ironically make her a strong competitor, quipping that she “would win” under those circumstances.
The actress’s comments come amid a busy period in her career, with Adams recently returning to television in new projects while continuing to take on high-profile film roles. However, her light-hearted critique of Love Island quickly resonated with fans online, many of whom shared similar reactions to the show’s sun-drenched villa setting.
While Adams is not expected to ever join the villa herself, her comments add to a growing list of celebrities who have admitted to watching, and simultaneously criticising, the reality dating phenomenon.
For now, Love Island remains a guilty pleasure for the actress, even if it continues to sit firmly in her “watch-only” category.
