Jennifer Lopez is opening up about her parenting approach as she prepares for a major life transition with her twins, Max and Emme.
The singer and actress appeared on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she reflected on raising her 18-year-old children in the spotlight. Lopez, 56, shares her twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
During the conversation, Lopez was asked how to ensure children do not grow up spoiled. She explained that children are more influenced by what they observe than what they are told, emphasizing the importance of setting an example through actions.
“They do what they see you do,” she said, noting that she has tried to pass on life lessons and values as her twins prepare to leave for college. She added that hard work, discipline, and consistency are qualities children naturally absorb from their parents’ behaviour.
Lopez also spoke about how her children often express a desire to carve out their own identities, while still unconsciously reflecting traits they have learned from her. She described this dynamic as part of the parenting journey, especially in a high-profile environment.
Elsewhere in the interview, Lopez became emotional while discussing her upcoming shift to becoming an empty nester. She said the transition has been particularly difficult as she has spent most of her life closely connected with her children.
The On the Floor singer credited a strong support system, or “village,” for helping her balance motherhood with a demanding career in entertainment. She also reflected on giving her children both “roots and wings,” expressing pride in their independence while admitting the emotional challenge of letting go.
Lopez described the experience as bittersweet, sharing that even writing about their upcoming milestone often brings her to tears.
