Anna Faris has revealed that one of her favourite jokes from the new Scary Movie never made it into the finished film.

Speaking in a recent interview with Dexerto, the actress explained that she envisioned her returning character, Cindy Campbell, as someone who had fallen deep into conspiracy theories and extreme political culture during the years since audiences last saw her.

Faris returned to the franchise in Scary Movie, released on June 5, reuniting with original stars Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans. The latest instalment marks her first appearance in the series since Scary Movie 4 in 2006 after she skipped 2013’s Scary Movie 5.

According to Faris, she repeatedly pushed for Cindy to reflect a very specific type of personality.

"I was always pushing for Cindy to be classic MAGA rabbit hole," she told Dexerto. She described the character as someone similar to the people who created public confrontations during the coronavirus pandemic.

One sequence even made it through filming and into post production before ultimately being removed from the final cut.

Faris explained that the scene featured Cindy becoming heavily intoxicated while sitting inside her truck. Looking into the rear view mirror, the character would tell herself, "Be best, Cindy Campbell. Be best."

The line referenced Melania Trump’s "Be Best" campaign, launched in 2018 to promote children’s wellbeing and combat online bullying.

Although the gag was eventually cut, Faris admitted she was fond of the joke and appreciated the subtle nod.

"That didn’t make it, but I liked my little winking there," she said.

The actress also reflected on the freedom she felt while making the latest sequel. Faris joked that because the Scary Movie franchise has always embraced outrageous humour, she never felt limited by what she could attempt.

"I’m in a movie that is truly the most offensive movie ever made. I think I can kind of do anything. It liberated me," she said.

The new film has reunited several familiar faces from the franchise and has already generated attention among fans nostalgic for the original entries. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Regina Hall all returned alongside Faris, bringing back many of the personalities that helped turn the early films into box office hits.

Even though audiences never saw the deleted Melania Trump reference, Faris’ comments have offered fans a glimpse into the creative process behind the sequel and the ideas that nearly appeared on screen.
