'Masha and the Bear' scores major Netflix renewal with new seasons
Netflix has expanded its partnership with the globally popular animated series Masha and the Bear, securing two new seasons of the children's franchise as part of an extended worldwide licensing agreement.
The streaming giant has acquired Seasons 8 and 9 of the hit preschool series while also renewing rights to previous installments and spin-off titles. The deal covers more than 100 countries, further strengthening the show's international presence on the platform.
Produced and distributed by Animaccord, Masha and the Bear is inspired by a Russian folk tale and follows the adventures of an energetic young girl named Masha and her protective bear companion. Since its debut, the series has become one of the most successful children's franchises in the world, attracting billions of views across digital platforms.
According to Animaccord, the upcoming episodes will introduce major developments for the characters. New storylines will reportedly feature Masha attending kindergarten for the first time, alongside fresh adventures involving the Yeti family. The studio has also teased special event-style episodes and significant character-focused moments throughout the new seasons.
In addition to the latest installments, Netflix has renewed streaming rights for Seasons 1 through 7, as well as spin-off series Masha's Tales and Masha's Spooky Stories. The agreement extends availability across key territories, including the United States, Canada, parts of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
The franchise remains one of the most-watched preschool brands globally, often compared with major children's properties such as Cocomelon, Peppa Pig and PAW Patrol. Beyond its success on Netflix, Masha and the Bear continues to draw a massive audience on YouTube, where its official channel has accumulated more than 55 million subscribers.
The expanded deal further cements the series' status as a leading force in children's entertainment worldwide.
