Heatwave expected in Sindh as high-pressure system develops

According to PMD forecast, Karachi's temperatures likely to rise between 39°C to 42°C from June 8 to June 12

KARACHI:

A high-pressure system is expected to develop in the upper atmosphere from today (Monday), which may further strengthen by tomorrow, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

According to the PMD forecast, under the influence of this system, moderate to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail across most districts of Sindh from June 8 to June 12.

In Karachi, heatwave conditions are expected to persist during the same period, with maximum temperatures likely to rise between 39°C to 42°C.

In interior Sindh, extremely hot weather is expected in several districts. Temperatures in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze may range between 48°C to 51°C.

Meanwhile, in Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, and Sanghar, temperatures are likely to remain between 42°C to 45°C.

The PMD has also warned that due to intense heat, dust storms and strong winds may occur at isolated places in the plains of the province.
