Zendaya made a surprise visit to an independent bookshop in Northern California, where she posed for a photograph holding two novels connected to upcoming films involving both herself and partner Tom Holland.

The actress stopped by Rakestraw Books in Danville, California, according to an Instagram post shared by the store on June 6.

Staff said Zendaya spent time browsing books and chatting with employees during her visit.

“We had a very special visitor at Rakestraw Books recently,” the shop wrote. “Zendaya stopped by to shop and chat books with us! We were thrilled to help her find some good reads and loved getting some recommendations from her!”

Zendaya is set to return as Chani in Dune: Part Three, the next instalment of Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction franchise, which is scheduled for release in December.

The Odyssey also has significance for the actress and Holland. The pair are attached to director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of the classic epic poem, with Zendaya reportedly set to portray the goddess Athena. Holland is also expected to star in the film.

Zendaya and Holland first met while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. After years of friendship and fan speculation, the pair publicly confirmed their relationship in 2021.

A source later confirmed that Holland had proposed during the 2024 holiday season.

The bookshop visit offered a rare public glimpse of Zendaya away from film sets and red carpets, while subtly highlighting upcoming projects that will feature both her and Holland.
