Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the third and final instalment in its ambitious remake trilogy, with a release planned for Spring 2027.

The announcement was made during SUMMER GAME FEST in Los Angeles, where attendees were given the first trailer and a glimpse of gameplay footage. Voice actor Matthew Mercer also appeared during the presentation, confirming his return as Vincent Valentine after joining the series in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The upcoming title will arrive as part of celebrations surrounding the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII, which first debuted in 1997 and became one of the most influential role-playing games ever released.

According to Square Enix, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will continue the story following the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud Strife and his allies are faced with a world nearing destruction as Sephiroth moves closer to achieving godlike power.

The game’s official description states that the party will travel aboard the Highwind airship while attempting to stop Meteor and prevent the planet’s annihilation. Players will also be able to explore new regions across the world map, make use of a new job system in combat and strengthen relationships between characters.

Vincent Valentine and pilot Cid Highwind are both expected to play major roles in the concluding chapter.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi thanked fans for supporting the project throughout the years and said the new game revolves around the theme of resolve. He explained that Cloud and his companions will confront their personal beliefs as they move towards a final battle that determines the fate of the planet.

Unlike previous entries, Final Fantasy VII: Revelation is set for a simultaneous release across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The wider launch strategy means players on every major platform will be able to experience the conclusion at the same time.

The remake project began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024. Over the past several years, the trilogy has expanded the story of the original game while introducing new gameplay systems and narrative elements.

With Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, Square Enix is preparing to bring one of gaming’s most beloved stories to its long-awaited conclusion. Fans will have to wait until Spring 2027 to discover how Cloud’s journey finally ends.
