Taylor Swift has shared rare childhood footage of herself dressed as a cowgirl to mark the release of her new original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You”, from the upcoming Disney and Pixar film Toy Story 5.
The singer posted the home video on X and Instagram on June 5, showing herself as a young child wearing a cowboy hat, boots and a denim skirt while dancing.
Swift described the project as both a creative challenge and a return to familiar territory. “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once,” she wrote.
The singer also reflected on her long-standing connection to the franchise, adding, “And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
Swift thanked Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton for selecting her for the project and praised composer Randy Newman for helping create the musical identity of the franchise.
“Thank you to the brilliant Andrew Stanton for imagining me for this, all those years ago when you wrote this newest film. Thank you to the incomparable @randynewmanofficial for the gorgeous sonic tapestry of songs and scores you’ve meticulously woven over the years,” she said.
The track was co-written and co-produced by Swift and long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff. The song also marks a return to a country-inspired sound, reflecting Jessie’s roots as a cowgirl character.
Swift previously announced the song earlier this week, revealing that she wrote it shortly after viewing an early version of the film. Toy Story 5 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 19.
