Is HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ coming to an end after season 4?
Ryan Condal confirms 'House of the Dragon' ends with season 4 and hints at future HBO projects after Westeros

Ryan Condal has confirmed that HBO’s hit fantasy series House of the Dragon will conclude with season 4, as the showrunner begins shaping the final chapter of the Game of Thrones prequel, according to an interview with Deadline.
Speaking in the discussion, Condal revealed that the concluding season is already in early development and will maintain a similar episode structure to previous seasons, while increasing in scale and ambition.
Condal described season 4 as the “biggest season we have made,” noting that production plans are already being mapped out even as season 3 is still being completed. The series, which continues to be one of HBO’s flagship dramas, is expected to maintain its large-scale storytelling approach, with extensive production requirements including major set pieces and visual effects.
While discussing the show’s future, Condal reflected on his long-running involvement in the world of Westeros. He suggested that season 4 will serve as a definitive endpoint for his creative journey within the franchise, stating that he feels he has “said what I have to say about Westeros,” though he did not rule out future collaborations with HBO.
The showrunner also confirmed that his renewed deal with HBO extends through 2029, signaling continued collaboration with the network beyond House of the Dragon. However, he remained tight-lipped about specific upcoming projects, only hinting that a new creative chapter is beginning.
Season 3 of House of the Dragon is currently in production and is described as the “midpoint” of the series, with rising tension and darker narrative developments. Condal teased large-scale sequences, including major battles and complex character arcs, as the story moves toward its conclusion.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s universe, House of the Dragon continues to expand the legacy of Game of Thrones, with its final seasons expected to deliver high-stakes political conflict and epic fantasy storytelling.
