Catherine, Princess of Wales shared a touching moment with a young mother completing breast cancer treatment during a visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester on June 4.
The Princess of Wales, who is in remission following her own cancer treatment, met 30-year-old Claire Lorente as she marked the end of her treatment journey by ringing the hospital bell. Kate congratulated Lorente on reaching the milestone and embraced her during the emotional occasion.
In one of the visit’s most poignant moments, Kate spoke to Lorente’s baby and said, “Isn’t Mummy brave?”, celebrating the mother’s strength after what she described as a difficult journey. She also called the occasion “an amazing day” and acknowledged the significance of completing treatment.
The royal used the meeting to reflect on her own experience with cancer, making rare comments about the impact treatment can have on loved ones. Speaking about families navigating a diagnosis, she noted that the experience is particularly difficult not only for patients but also for their children and parents.
Kate’s visit highlighted the importance of holistic cancer care, including services such as art therapy, meditation and wellbeing gardens that help support patients emotionally as well as physically during treatment. The Princess toured the centre and met patients, staff and former cancer survivors while learning more about the programmes available.
The engagement marks Kate’s second cancer-focused public appearance this week and comes more than a year after she announced she had completed chemotherapy. Since revealing she was in remission in January 2025, the Princess has increasingly used her platform to raise awareness of cancer recovery and patient support services.
