Pink is preparing to bring her trademark energy to the 79th Tony Awards, promising stunts, elaborate costume changes and a packed opening number as she takes on hosting duties for Broadway's biggest night.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony at New York's Radio City Music Hall, the Grammy winning star revealed that viewers can expect a fast paced show featuring a large scale opening performance. According to Pink, the introduction will run for around seven and a half minutes and include roughly 170 people on stage.

The singer acknowledged that many people were surprised when she was announced as host. She admitted that her own first reaction was similar, noting that she has never performed on Broadway. However, organisers explained that they hoped her involvement would attract a wider audience to the annual awards ceremony.

Pink said she immediately understood the assignment and embraced the opportunity to celebrate the theatre community. While she stopped short of revealing exact details, she hinted that audiences should expect some of the aerial and physical elements that have become a hallmark of her live concerts.

She joked that people often expect her to fly whenever she appears at a major event and suggested that discussions about potential stunts began almost immediately after she accepted the role. Although she remained secretive about the specifics, she confirmed that stunt work will feature in the broadcast and hinted that other performers could become involved as well.

In addition to the action, Pink said she plans to make as many costume changes as possible throughout the evening. She described the show as "raucous and wild and ridiculous" and said one of her conditions for hosting was the ability to make fun of herself from the very beginning.

The singer also reflected on her long standing connection to musical theatre. Growing up, her mother would save money for annual trips to see stage productions, experiences that left a lasting impression. Pink recalled seeing classics such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and La Cage aux Folles, adding that theatre played an important role in shaping her development as a performer.

Family support also influenced her decision to accept the hosting job. Pink revealed that she sought approval from her daughter Willow, who has ambitions of pursuing a Broadway career herself. According to the singer, Willow was enthusiastic about the opportunity and quickly asked whether she would have a seat at the ceremony.

Pink's connection to Broadway extends beyond her personal interest. Her music currently appears in stage productions including Moulin Rouge! The Musical and & Juliet, further linking her career to the theatre world.

The 79th Tony Awards will be broadcast live on June 7 from Radio City Music Hall. With promises of stunts, humour, music and a massive ensemble performance, Pink appears determined to deliver a memorable evening that blends her pop star persona with Broadway's biggest celebration.
