God of War Laufey continues Norse saga with Faye as lead character in new PlayStation adventure

God of War Laufey has been officially unveiled during PlayStation’s State of Play presentation on June 2 2026, introducing a new chapter in the franchise with Kratos’ wife, Faye, taking centre stage as the playable protagonist.

The newly announced title serves as a continuation of the God of War Norse storyline, shifting the focus away from Kratos and Atreus to explore Faye’s journey after her death. Developed by Sony Santa Monica, the game does not yet have a confirmed release date.

Gameplay footage showcased during the reveal opened with a familiar scene connected to the events of 2018’s God of War. After witnessing her own funeral pyre, Faye awakens in an unfamiliar realm and begins a new quest linked to the future of her family.

According to the official game description, “Death was supposed to be the end, but for Laufey (Faye), warrior and wife to Kratos, a new adventure is just beginning.”

The synopsis explains that Faye discovers plans she previously set in motion to protect Kratos and Atreus are now under threat, forcing her to venture through a mysterious afterlife known as the Everywhen.

The Everywhen is described as a realm where gods from different mythologies compete for power. The reveal also hinted at the introduction of Egyptian mythology, with Faye encountering Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war, plague and healing.

Combat footage showed Faye wielding a sword in fast-paced battles while navigating a labyrinth-like environment.

Later scenes featured a magical blade accompanied by sentient ribbons known as Rue, offering new combat mechanics distinct from those seen in previous God of War titles.

The gameplay presentation also introduced new enemies and characters, including Phranque, a figure connected to the Everywhen. The setting appears largely separate from locations previously explored during the Norse saga.

God of War Laufey marks the first time players will control Faye in a standalone adventure. Alongside the game announcement, development continues on Amazon’s live-action God of War television series, currently filming in British Columbia, Canada.
