Tom Holland's experience working with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey may have had a bigger impact on Spider-Man: Brand New Day than fans realise.
According to MovieWeb, Holland recently revealed that working on Nolan's epic adaptation of The Odyssey reignited his passion for filmmaking and challenged him as an actor in new ways. The actor described the experience as one of the highlights of his career, prompting speculation that some of that creative growth could be reflected in his return as Peter Parker.
The timing is particularly notable because Holland filmed Nolan's ambitious historical epic before returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor stars as Telemachus in The Odyssey alongside a cast that includes Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya. Holland said the project reminded him why he fell in love with acting in the first place.
MovieWeb notes that Brand New Day appears to be taking Peter Parker back to his roots following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Rather than dealing with multiversal threats, the film is expected to focus on a more grounded version of the character navigating life alone after the world forgot his identity.
That shift aligns with comments from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who recently described Brand New Day as the first MCU Spider-Man film to fully embrace the hero's classic comic-book status quo. The story will reportedly see Peter living in a modest New York apartment and tackling street-level crime, a stark contrast to the universe-spanning adventures of recent MCU entries.
Holland's increased maturity as an actor has also become a talking point among fans. After balancing blockbuster franchises with more dramatic projects, including his collaboration with Nolan, the actor appears to be entering a new phase of his career. MovieWeb argues that this evolution could help shape a more emotionally grounded Peter Parker in the upcoming film.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink and Mark Ruffalo. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 31 2026.
While Nolan had no direct involvement in the Marvel production, MovieWeb suggests that Holland's experience working under the Oscar-winning filmmaker may ultimately benefit Brand New Day, as the actor brings a renewed perspective and confidence back to one of cinema's most recognisable superheroes.
