Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film to fully focus on the character's classic comic-book elements, following years of Peter Parker being caught up in Avengers-level events.

Speaking to Empire, Feige explained that the upcoming film will return Spider-Man to his street-level roots, with Peter living alone in a modest New York apartment and spending his nights listening to police scanners in search of crimes to stop. Feige said the movie is centred on the “classic elements of Spider-Man” and described the hero as “living in a rather sad, small apartment” while trying to use his powers responsibly.

The approach marks a significant shift for Tom Holland’s version of the character. Since debuting in Captain America: Civil War, Holland's Peter Parker has largely operated alongside major Marvel heroes, battled cosmic threats and relied on advanced technology provided by Iron Man. Unlike previous live-action iterations, he never experienced a prolonged period as a struggling neighbourhood superhero.

That changed dramatically at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, when a spell caused the entire world to forget Peter Parker's identity. With his friends, loved ones and allies no longer remembering him, Peter was left completely on his own, setting the stage for a more traditional Spider-Man story.

Feige suggested that Brand New Day will explore this new chapter by focusing on the responsibilities and hardships that have long defined the character in Marvel Comics. The film's title itself references the comic-book storyline “Brand New Day,” which reset Peter Parker's status quo and returned him to a more grounded, back-to-basics existence.

Holland also told Empire that the film represents a period of major change for Peter. The actor jokingly referred to the story as “Spider-Puberty,” describing it as a time when Peter is losing control and experiencing dramatic personal and physical changes.

The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Tramell Tillman. The movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 31 July 2026.

For longtime Spider-Man fans, Feige's comments suggest that Brand New Day may deliver something they have been waiting years to see: a Peter Parker who is no longer an Avenger-in-training, but a struggling young man balancing ordinary life with the responsibilities of being New York City's friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
