Fable delayed to February 2027 as Xbox revises release schedule

Fable has officially been delayed to February 2027, with Xbox confirming that Playground Games’ long-awaited role-playing game will no longer launch during its previously announced Autumn 2026 release window.

The delay marks another milestone in the lengthy development journey of the Fable reboot, which has been in development since 2016 following Microsoft’s closure of Lionhead Studios.

After years of limited updates and gradual reveals, the game finally received a concrete Autumn 2026 release target during the Xbox Developer Direct presentation in January.

That schedule has now changed. Xbox announced the delay on May 29, explaining that the decision was made to accommodate a busy line-up of major releases planned for the holiday season.

“In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves,” Xbox said in a statement shared on X.

According to the company, the late-2026 release calendar includes several high-profile titles, including Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI.

Xbox also confirmed that Fable remains scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Fans will not have to wait long for another look at the game, as a new showcase is planned during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.

The announcement follows months of speculation surrounding the project's release plans. In April, reports suggested that Fable had been pushed internally, with concerns about launching close to Grand Theft Auto VI cited as a possible factor.

At the time, the official Fable social media account maintained that the game remained on track for Autumn 2026.

Fable is now scheduled to arrive in February 2027 after more than a decade of development and anticipation.
