Tom Holland reveals creative role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day development
Tom Holland has revealed that he personally pitched a major creative idea for Spider-Man: Brand New Day during early development discussions with Marvel Studios, according to Empire magazine.
After a decade playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland said he was invited into the writers’ room for the first time, joining creative meetings with producers including Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. The actor described the process as a collaborative effort where ideas were pitched every two weeks to shape the direction of the next Spider-Man chapter.
One of Holland’s key contributions was an early concept he jokingly called “Spider-Puberty,” which explored the idea of Peter Parker’s powers evolving unpredictably as he matures. “What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?” Holland said, explaining the core idea behind the pitch.
Although the original “Spider-Puberty” label was rejected, Holland noted that the underlying concept was well received and developed into a central storyline for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The new arc will reportedly explore Peter Parker’s shifting abilities and emotional challenges as he adjusts to life after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Holland added that returning to the role after a break allowed him to think about the future of the character and even potential successors in the Spider-Man universe, including Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen.
The actor also expressed interest in helping set up future iterations of the franchise, similar to how Robert Downey Jr. helped shape the early MCU era.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to continue expanding the character-driven storytelling of the Spider-Man series when it releases in cinemas on July 29, 2026.
