Suki Waterhouse says becoming a mother felt like her 'identity had been cut open'

Waterhouse added that motherhood fundamentally changed her relationship with Pattinson

Suki Waterhouse has candidly opened up about the emotional impact of motherhood, revealing that becoming a parent made her feel as though her “identity had been cut open”.

In a recent interview with Variety, the singer, actress and model reflected on the profound personal changes she experienced after welcoming her daughter with fiancé Robert Pattinson in March 2024. Waterhouse said she struggled with the expectations she placed on herself during the transition into motherhood.

“I felt like my identity had been cut open in becoming a mother,” Waterhouse explained, describing the experience as emotionally overwhelming at times while also deeply transformative. She also spoke about the hormonal and psychological shifts that accompanied postpartum life.

The 34-year-old added that motherhood fundamentally changed her relationship with Pattinson. According to Waterhouse, the dynamic they had before becoming parents was effectively “wiped out” and replaced with a different, more resilient partnership shaped by raising their daughter together.

Despite the challenges, Waterhouse said she now feels more grounded creatively and personally. The actress is currently preparing for the release of her upcoming album Loveland, which arrives in July and marks her first major music project since becoming a mother.

Waterhouse and Pattinson have remained notably private about their daughter, rarely sharing details publicly. However, the couple have occasionally offered small glimpses into family life. Earlier this year, Pattinson joked during an interview that their toddler had already watched several of his films, including Mickey 17 and footage from Dune: Part Three.

The couple, who began dating in 2018 and became engaged in 2023, have increasingly spoken about how parenthood has reshaped their priorities. Waterhouse recently revealed she would like to expand their family in the future, saying she could see herself having “maybe max two more kids”.
