Lisa Kudrow recounts hilarious Hollywood identity mix-up

Lisa Kudrow reveals she was mistaken for Dionne Warwick during Friends fame in funny Hollywood encounter

Lisa Kudrow has shared a surprising and humorous story about being mistaken for legendary singer Dionne Warwick during the peak of her Friends fame, according to remarks made during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable discussion.

Speaking alongside Keke Palmer, Quinta Brunson, and Rachel Sennott, Kudrow recalled visiting a restaurant when a hostess initially believed she was a well-known celebrity—but not for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the hit NBC sitcom Friends.

Kudrow explained that the confusion unfolded after the hostess recognised her and said she knew who she was, prompting the actress to assume she was being identified as a member of the Friends cast. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the hostess confidently identified her as Dionne Warwick instead.

The actress, 62, said she was momentarily stunned and quickly corrected the misunderstanding, explaining that she was not the iconic singer. Kudrow added that she found the entire exchange amusing and later reflected on Warwick’s legendary status in music history.

During the conversation, fellow comedian Keke Palmer joked about the mix-up, adding light-hearted commentary on the unusual comparison.

Kudrow also noted that celebrity misidentifications are more common than people think, with other actors sharing similar stories of being mistaken for different public figures throughout their careers.

The Friends star remains one of television’s most recognisable faces, having played Phoebe Buffay across the show’s ten-season run alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
