Indian actor Sara Ali Khan, in her latest podcast appearance, offered a refreshingly candid glimpse into her relationship with food, spiritual travel habits, and thoughtful takes on love, marriage, and personal growth. Sara also revealed how much she has evolved over the years while still holding onto her spontaneity.
Discussing her relationship with food, Sara laughed about her “mindless eating” days during her time at Columbia University in New York. She recalled discovering a 50% off pizza deal and proudly ordering two medium pizzas almost every day, joking that she later realised that the discount also meant “50% more weight.”
However, Sara admitted that phase is behind her now. While her love for food remains unchanged, especially for comforting Punjabi staples, her relationship with eating has transformed. She said she has let go of the “mindlessness” and now approaches food with far more awareness, choosing to enjoy it consciously rather than impulsively.
Travel, too, holds a deeper meaning for Sara. She spoke passionately about her frequent spiritual treks to Kedarnath Temple and other mountain shrines. While spirituality draws her to these destinations, she jokingly admitted that local mountain cuisine is an equally strong motivation.
According to her, mountain trekking also strips away vanity; you stop worrying about selfies or public attention and start caring only about reaching the destination and finding water.
The conversation turned more personal as Sara shared her views on relationships and love. Saying that to her, love is a verb, Sara stated that genuine love is less about words and more about presence.
Showing up during difficult moments, standing by someone when life feels overwhelming, and offering support when it truly matters, is what matters to her, the actor said.
On the subject of suspicion in relationships, Sara discussed a hypothetical suspicious spouse, saying that if someone feels excessively irritated by their partner’s suspicion, perhaps there is “a thief in the heart.”
At the same time, she acknowledged that no relationship can survive if mistrust becomes its foundation.
When asked about her own love language, Sara revealed that physical touch matters deeply to her. A reassuring hand on the shoulder or a comforting touch from a partner, she said, can communicate something no one else can replicate, not even close friends or family.
She added that another one of her love languages is simply “being a buffoon” and acting like a cartoon.
Sara admitted that after being single for a long time, she had grown somewhat cynical about relationships but watching healthy, joyful partnerships made her realise that meaningful companionship does exist, and that she does want marriage, but only with the right person.
However, the actor emphasised the importance of financial and emotional independence before committing to anyone. Borrowing the familiar aeroplane safety analogy, “put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others”, Sara explained that she wants a strong individual identity before entering a partnership.
She stated that she does not want someone to “complete” her but wants someone to share a complete life with.
The conversation came as a movie promotion for Sara's latest release, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do in which she stars alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh.
The much-anticipated project has already generated buzz for bringing together three distinct personalities.
