The Sindh government, through its Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Department, in collaboration with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and The Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP), on Saturday held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Karachi Museum of History at Beach View Park.
The museum, planned as a digitally interactive cultural institution, aims to preserve and showcase the history and heritage of Sindh as well as the Pakistan independence movement through storytelling, archival material, technology and immersive exhibitions.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and CAP Patron-in-Chief Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, along with members of civil society and the business community.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said Karachi was not only the country's economic hub but also a 'living archive' of collective memory, diversity and resilience. He said the museum would help preserve the city's legacy for future generations.
Culture Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah said the project reflected the government's commitment to protecting and promoting Sindh's rich cultural heritage through accessible public institutions.
Mayor Wahab termed Karachi one of the world's great cities and said the museum would serve as a landmark civic institution representing the city's diverse communities and histories.
