Love story sours as guard murders beloved

A love story turned tragic when a man killed his beloved with an axe and then burnt her body for refusing to marry him in the Liaquat Colony area of Dhamiyal police station.

After killing Misbah Shahzad with a hatchet, 40-year-old Talib Hussain poured petrol on her body and set her on fire. The accused himself sufferef from 90 per cent burns in the fire. He managed to survive and give a confessional statement to the police.

Police officials said that DFC Police Constable Muhammad Naseem received a report of a fire at house in Liaquat Colony at around 9.45am. When Constable Naseem reached the reported location, he found the body of a woman, who was later identified as Misbah Shahzad, and a man who was severely burned and was in a critical condition. He was identified as Talib Hussain, a resident of Kallar Syedan , who works as a security guard in a local private housing society.

According to the police, the accused had been renting a room in the house owned by landlord Razia Parveen for a month. In a seriously injured state, Hussain gave a statement in front of Constable Naseem, landlord Razia Parveen and other local residents. He admitted to killing Misbah Shahzad by attacking her with axe and then pouring petrol over her body and setting it on fire.

The accused stated that he had liked Misbah, but he had become suspicious of Misbah having befriending a man named Shoaib. He confessed that jealousy drove him to take extreme measures.

Officials confirmed that the woman's body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem and the person who was burnt in the fire was shifted to the burn unit of the Holy Family Hospital, where the accused is being treated while he remains in a critical condition.

Initial reports show that there were axe wounds on the woman's head, face and other parts of the body.
