LAHORE:

A local court has ordered the registration of an FIR against former inspector Rana Muhammad Akram, allegedly linked to accused drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky, over allegations of an illegal raid and theft of valuables worth millions of rupees.

The court directed the Station House Officer concerned to register a case against the former police officer under Sections 22-A and 22-B of the Criminal Procedure Code on an application filed by complainant Yasmeen Tabassam alias Nigar Chaudhry.

According to the petition, Rana Akram, a former DSP of the Organised Crime Unit, allegedly conducted an unlawful raid at the petitioner's residence and removed valuables worth Rs5.5 million.

The court observed that the complaint disclosed prima facie cognisable offences, including illegal entry into a house, unlawful detention and alleged police excesses.

It added that the truth of the allegations could only be determined through a formal investigation after registration of the FIR.

The petitioner maintained that a prior inquiry conducted by the CCPO Office had held Rana Muhammad Akram responsible for misconduct and inappropriate conduct.

An Internal Accountability report dated August 5, 2024 also reportedly pointed out serious irregularities in the raid. However, a subsequent inquiry by the Organised Crime Unit found the allegations unsubstantiated, prompting the complainant to challenge the findings through an appeal.

Officials said the Additional IG Inspection and Additional IG Complaints later ordered a de novo inquiry on July 21, 2025.

The court was informed through the Punjab IG Office that Rana Muhammad Akram had retired on February 14, 2025.

However, the judge observed that retirement did not affect the legal proceedings or the status of allegations.
