Ed Sheeran is set to fund the construction of a new youth centre in his hometown of Framlingham, Suffolk, stepping in after the planned closure of an existing community facility.
The singer-songwriter will finance the project through his charity, the Framlingham Foundation Trust, alongside a separate initiative called Fram Fam. The new centre is also expected to carry the Fram Fam name and will be run by local community members with experience in youth and social work.
According to planning documents submitted to East Suffolk Council, the facility will “replace and significantly enhance” the current youth club, which has served the area for around 20 years but is expected to close in the near future. Without the new development, officials warned there would be no long-term youth provision available in Framlingham.
The proposed centre will serve children and young people aged 0 to 18 and will include a wide range of facilities such as an art studio, rehearsal spaces, library, cookery room, and outdoor garden areas. A separate gym is also planned on-site, which would be open to the public.
A strong emphasis will be placed on creative development, reflecting Sheeran’s personal interests in music and the arts. The project is also intended to strengthen community engagement and provide a safe, multifunctional space for young people.
Sheeran, 35, has previously supported his former school, Thomas Mills High School and Sixth Form, as part of his ongoing charitable work in the area.
The planning application is currently awaiting approval, but documents suggest that if permission is granted, construction could begin in spring or summer 2026. The project is described as being fully funded and designed to deliver long-term benefits for the local community.
