During the filming of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, director Quentin Tarantino and star Brad Pitt reportedly clashed over an improvised moment involving veteran actor Bruce Dern.
Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Dern recalled that Pitt abruptly stopped filming after the actor improvised a line that was not included in the script. According to Dern, Tarantino reacted furiously after Pitt called for the camera to cut mid-scene.
Dern claimed Tarantino told Pitt: “Never again in your life will you ever cut a camera or you’ll be dead in this business. That’s my domain.”
The moment allegedly happened during a scene where Pitt’s character wakes Dern’s character in bed. Pitt reportedly argued that Dern’s improvised dialogue was not part of the script, while Tarantino insisted filming should continue uninterrupted.
Despite the tense exchange, the film went on to become one of Tarantino’s biggest critical and commercial successes, earning 10 Academy Award nominations and winning two Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor for Pitt.
