Wiz Khalifa has reportedly become the subject of an active arrest warrant in Romania after authorities claimed the rapper failed to report for a nine month prison sentence connected to a 2024 music festival performance.

The Pittsburgh born artist, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, appeared on the Romanian police website this week under a notice described as a “warrant to execute a prison sentence”. According to translated details published by local authorities, Khalifa was sentenced after being found guilty of illegal possession of dangerous drugs for personal consumption.

The case stems from Khalifa’s appearance at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinesti in July 2024. Prosecutors alleged the rapper smoked marijuana on stage during his performance, reportedly while performing the hit song “Young, Wild & Free” alongside footage from the event circulating widely online afterward.

Authorities also claimed Khalifa was found carrying more than 18 grams of marijuana following the performance. Romanian law maintains strict regulations surrounding cannabis possession and recreational use, even in relatively small quantities.

After the incident, Khalifa addressed the controversy publicly on X, formerly Twitter, where he apologised to Romanian authorities and insisted no disrespect toward the country had been intended.

“Last nights show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote at the time. “They were respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

The rapper was initially handed a financial penalty reportedly equivalent to roughly $830 by a lower court. However, prosecutors later pushed for a harsher punishment, eventually securing the nine month prison sentence that Romanian media outlets described as final.

Reports now suggest Khalifa failed to surrender himself to authorities after the ruling, leading Romanian police to issue the warrant publicly. As of May 21, 2026, neither Khalifa nor his representatives had issued a detailed statement responding directly to the arrest notice.

The development arrives while the rapper remains active professionally. Khalifa is currently touring North America alongside mgk on the LOST AMERICANA tour, which began earlier this month. The pair are also preparing to release their collaborative project Blog Era Boyz.

Online reaction to the case has been sharply divided. Some fans argued the punishment appeared excessive for marijuana related charges, especially considering changing cannabis laws across parts of the United States and Europe. Others pointed out that Romanian drug laws remain strict regardless of celebrity status or cultural differences.

The situation has also reignited broader conversations surrounding artists using substances during live performances overseas, with many noting that international touring musicians often face legal standards very different from those in America.

At present, it remains unclear whether extradition efforts or further legal negotiations could follow if Khalifa continues performing outside Romania without serving the sentence.
