K-P police seek federal security package

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have formally approached the federal government seeking a special package to address the deteriorating security situation in the province, particularly in its most sensitive southern districts.

The package is expected to focus on constructing police stations, strengthening security infrastructure, establishing new police posts and providing modern vehicles.

The move comes in the wake of a series of consecutive terrorist attacks, prompting provincial authorities to brief the federal government on the ground situation.

According to sources, the police identified Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank as high-priority areas in the proposed plan forwarded to the Centre through the K-P government.

A senior police officer told The Express Tribune that, as an initial step, the Fateh Khel check post in Bannu will be upgraded into a concrete structure to enhance personnel protection.

The officer further revealed that the federal government has received a comprehensive report detailing the recent surge in terrorism in the K-P, including militants' increasing use of advanced technology.

The report also outlines countermeasures taken by police, including efforts to disrupt militant networks and prevent attacks involving modern tools such as quadcopters.

Following Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's recent visit to Peshawar, authorities submitted an extensive assessment highlighting the challenges faced in maintaining law and order. The report points out the dilapidated condition of police lines in southern districts—many of which have not been rebuilt since the colonial era.
