Selfies with bulls become new trend

'Sheru', 'Badshah' lead Eid selfie trend; vloggers, Gen Z fuel viral festive content

ISLAMABAD:

As Eid festivities reach their peak, families and children are fully immersed in preparations, while visits to animal markets showcasing uniquely named livestock have become a source of excitement, amplified by the growing trend of taking selfies and sharing them on social media.

According to media reports, Eid markets are going viral as Generation Z and vloggers turn distinctively named sacrificial animals into a burgeoning selfie craze. The bustling mandis have evolved into digital hotspots, where festive shopping increasingly intersects with content creation, as visitors—particularly younger crowds—capture and share selfies alongside eye-catching animals, transforming the markets into viral online attractions.

Among the main draws are specially named sacrificial animals such as "Sheru," weighing approximately 120 kg with a robust, well-built frame, and "Badshah," a larger bull of nearly 180 kg renowned for its broad build and striking appearance. These animals are attracting significant attention, becoming focal points of Eid-related online content, while vloggers actively select animals, record videos, and take selfies as part of their digital storytelling.

Two young visitors commented on the trend, describing the animal markets as "fun and memorable places" during Eid, and noting that taking selfies with uniquely named animals has become a novel form of festive celebration. They highlighted that the phenomenon is particularly popular among Generation Z, who are not only participating but also inspiring others through social media posts and viral content.

Cattle market sellers reported that this Eid season, animals with distinctive names and impressive physiques are drawing considerable public interest in the cattle markets. They explained that buyers, particularly younger visitors and vloggers, are now prioritising not only weight and quality but also the uniqueness of sacrificial animals, which has become an increasingly prominent trend.

Sellers added that heavyweight animals such as "Sheru," "Badshah," "Rustam," and "Sultan," ranging from around 120 kg to over 180 kg, are in high demand due to their size, build, and visual appeal. Prices vary according to weight and breed, with larger, well-built animals commanding premium rates as Eid purchases intensify.
