Punjab enforces high Security Zone Act 2026
In a major decision related to security, Punjab has enforced the High Security Zone Act 2026 across the province under which high security zones, similar to Islamabad's Red Zone, will be established in every district.
Strict restrictions will apply to public meetings, rallies, processions and protest activities within these zones.
According to the law, violations could result in imprisonment ranging from one to three years and fines of up to Rs500,000.
Under the High Security Zone Act, district intelligence committees will be formed in every district under the chairmanship of deputy commissioners. Representatives of all law enforcement agencies will be included in these committees.
Political gatherings will only be allowed with the permission of the district intelligence committee and under specified timings and conditions.
Legal action will be taken against those who fail to vacate designated venues after the permitted time.
Chairs, rostrums, sound systems, banners and hoardings brought for gatherings may also be confiscated by the government.
