Police say suspects shot victim dead in deserted area over blackmail, harassment

RAWALPINDI:

Police have solved the blind murder case of a labourer who was killed a week ago in Dhoke Chauhan Takht Pari area of Rawat, arresting a married woman and her cousin for allegedly carrying out the murder.

According to police, the body of an unidentified man with bullet wounds to the chest was recovered from a deserted area in Dhoke Chauhan Takht Pari.

The deceased was later identified through photographs as Shafiq, a labourer from Kashmore who worked in the folding business in Rawalpindi.

Before identification of the body, police had already registered a case on the complaint of Constable Mohammad Adil, who was performing security duty in the area.

Family members of the deceased later arrived in Rawalpindi from Kashmore.

Police said investigations were expanded through mobile phone data, technical evidence and human intelligence, eventually leading investigators to a married woman identified as Rubina.

Police officials said the woman was found suspicious and included in the investigation, during which it emerged that she allegedly had relations with the deceased.

According to investigators, the victim had become aware of some of her personal vulnerabilities and allegedly started blackmailing and harassing her, which ultimately led to the murder.

Police said the woman confessed that out of fear that the matter could become public, she joined hands with her cousin Mudassar.

The accused allegedly called Shafiq to meet them, introduced the cousin as a buyer and took him to a deserted place where he was shot dead. The body was abandoned at the scene before the suspects fled.

Both suspects have now been formally arrested.
