Jensen Ackles is not done with the world of The Boys just yet.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight ahead of the series finale, Ackles opened up about returning as Soldier Boy in the upcoming prequel series Vought Rising.
Reflecting on the end of The Boys, the actor described the experience as emotional but also “bittersweet” because his time in the franchise is continuing through the new show.
“I’m also doing the prequel to it, so it’s like my journey hasn’t necessarily come to an end,” Ackles said during the interview.
The actor also spoke about how Vought Rising will differ from the main series. According to Ackles, the prequel will still carry the core identity of The Boys, but the tone and setting will feel different because the story takes place decades earlier.
Ackles explained that Soldier Boy often felt out of place in the modern timeline of The Boys, describing him as “an analog guy” trapped in a digital world. In the prequel, however, viewers will finally see the character in his natural environment.

“Now we see him in his element,” Ackles said. “We see him, kind of what made him who he was.”
Set in the 1950s, Vought Rising explores the early history of Vought and the origins of some of the franchise’s most powerful Supes. The series will also bring back Aya Cash as Stormfront.
The comments arrive shortly after the finale of The Boys left Soldier Boy’s present-day fate unresolved, with the character remaining alive but frozen in containment after the events of Season 5. While Vought Rising focuses on his past, the ending of The Boys leaves the door open for the character to potentially return in future stories set after the original series.
