Prime Video series The Boys has divided viewers following the release of its season 5 finale, with online criticism drawing comparisons to the ending of Game of Thrones.

According to reactions shared on X and other social media platforms, many fans expressed disappointment with the final episode, arguing that the series focused too heavily on future spin-offs instead of concluding its central storyline.

The finale sees Homelander lose his powers after Kimiko undergoes experimental procedures linked to Soldier Boy research. Billy Butcher ultimately kills Homelander using a crowbar before attempting to release a virus intended to eliminate all supes. Hughie later stops Butcher by shooting him, bringing the conflict to an end.

Viewers quickly compared the storyline to one of Game of Thrones’ most criticised moments, when Arya Stark unexpectedly killed the Night King despite years of build-up between the villain and Jon Snow.

One fan wrote online, “Erik Kripke really went with the Arya Stark ending for The Boys. I guess he gave it away with the Kimiko - Soldier Boy experiments.”

Another posted, “I told you we were in for another Arya stark moment.”

Several viewers also criticised the pacing and writing decisions in the final season. One user commented, “Homelander being turned into an immortal in episode 6 and then being killed 2 episodes later is a bad writing lmao.”

Others described the finale as “the worst finale of all time”, while some defended the series and argued that other controversial television endings had been worse.

Created by Eric Kripke, The Boys first premiered in 2019 and became one of Prime Video’s most successful original productions.
