Sony Santa Monica reportedly developing God of War spin-off centred on Faye and Tyr
Sony Santa Monica is reportedly developing a new God of War spin-off game for PlayStation 5 centred on Faye and the Norse god Tyr, according to industry leaks circulating online.
Reports published on May 14 2026 claimed the unannounced project would move beyond the Scandinavian-inspired setting seen in recent God of War titles and introduce mythologies linked to Japanese, Chinese and Native American folklore.
The game is also said to feature a faster combat system inspired by action titles such as Devil May Cry. According to the leaks, the story would take place before the events of 2018’s God of War reboot, focusing on characters connected to Kratos’ past.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has not officially confirmed the project. However, speculation increased after insiders suggested the game could appear during a future State of Play presentation expected in late May or early June 2026.
Leaker NateTheHate addressed the rumours online, stating, “I have a general window but no exact date. So it’s too soon to share any specifics about State of Play.”
Another industry insider known as The Snitch added to the speculation by posting a brief social media message reading: “Faye of War.”
The reported focus on Faye has divided some fans online. Supporters of the idea pointed to the character’s limited backstory in previous games and suggested the spin-off could expand the God of War universe in new ways.
User Marathoniano wrote: “Faye spin-off would actually be fire. We barely know anything about her story, so this has a lot of potential.”
Others questioned the decision to shift attention away from Kratos. User warrior lady wrote, “Nobody asked for a game with her, what is Sony smoking.”
Another fan compared the reaction to early scepticism surrounding the 2018 reboot, which focused more heavily on Kratos’ role as a father.
Sony has yet to announce an official reveal date for the reported project.
