Foreign firm refuses to ship consignment

KARACHI:
A foreign shipping company has refused to dispatch a consignment of 100 containers of fruits and vegetables. The shipment mainly consisted of mangoes and onions.

The shipping company refused to ship the containers even though shipping agents had previously confirmed the booking. The value of the consignment was estimated between Rs60 and Rs70 million.

The All Pakistan Fruits and Vegetables Exporters and Importers Association has requested the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Ports and Shipping to intervene in the matter.

Former chairman of the association, Abdul Wahid, informed The Express Tribune that violation of international shipping and freight regulations by foreign shipping companies had become a routine.

These companies were refusing to pick containers without assigning any reason, said Vice Chairman of the association, Aslam Paghali. He commented that the practice was severely hampering trade activities.
