ABC is expanding the Grey’s Anatomy universe once again with a brand-new spinoff set in rural Texas.
The untitled series has received a straight-to-series order and is being created by Shonda Rhimes and Meg Marinis, the current showrunner of Grey’s Anatomy. The show is described as “an edgy drama about a team at a West Texas rural hospital,” according to the official logline.
The story will follow a group of doctors and nurses working under challenging conditions while balancing complex personal relationships. ABC says the series will blend “high-stakes medicine” with the emotional storytelling that has defined the long-running medical drama franchise.
Rhimes and Marinis will executive produce the project alongside Betsy Beers, Ellen Pompeo and Zoanne Clack. The series comes from Shondaland and 20th Television.
The new drama marks the third major spinoff from Grey’s Anatomy, following Private Practice and Station 19.
ABC has slated the series for the 2026–27 television season. Casting details and a title have not yet been announced, but the order signals that the Grey’s Anatomy franchise remains one of the network’s most valuable properties more than two decades after its debut.
