More than 100 days after Nancy Guthrie mysteriously vanished from her Arizona home, investigators say they may be getting closer to identifying crucial DNA evidence found at the scene.

Speaking to People, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that laboratories are still actively testing blood evidence discovered outside Nancy’s Tucson property, including blood spatter found on the porch and pathway leading toward the street.

“I know we have DNA that is unknown who the contributor or depositor is, but I think they’re getting closer to finding out who that was,” Nanos said.

The sheriff pushed back against speculation that the case has gone cold, insisting investigators and forensic teams, including specialists at the FBI lab in Quantico, are continuing to work through the evidence.

“When you have the best minds of the country working on problems, I think they’re gonna solve them,” he added. “It just takes a while.”

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1. Authorities believe she may have been abducted from her home, though no suspects have officially been named.

Investigators previously released doorbell camera footage showing a masked individual near the property around the time of her disappearance, but key questions remain unanswered, including whether the blood found at the scene belonged to Nancy, a possible attacker, or both.

Nanos acknowledged growing public frustration over the slow-moving investigation but defended the pace of the case, stressing that authorities want to avoid rushing toward incorrect conclusions.

“Nobody wants to make a false arrest. Nobody wants to falsely accuse somebody,” he said.

The sheriff also emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing despite mounting speculation online.
