Terraria reaches 70 million sales as Re-Logic marks 15th anniversary
Terraria has reached 70 million copies sold worldwide as developer Re-Logic celebrated the game’s 15th anniversary on May16.
The studio shared updated figures in a Steam anniversary post, confirming that the 2D survival crafting game has become one of the best-selling titles in gaming history.
According to Re-Logic, 39.6 million copies have been sold through Steam, while console editions account for 10.7 million sales. Mobile versions have sold a further 19.7 million copies.
The developer also revealed that around 461,000 players log into Terraria on PC each day. Average playtime across all players currently stands at 101 hours and 18 minutes.
Re-Logic highlighted the continued growth of Terraria’s modding scene as part of the anniversary update. The open-source tModLoader, which allows players to create and install modifications, has been downloaded 12.3 million times on Steam.
Around 237,000 players reportedly use mods daily, representing more than half of the game’s active PC audience.
The sales milestone places Terraria ahead of major titles including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Pokémon Red & Blue. The game remains behind Minecraft in the survival genre, but its long-term popularity continues to stand out nearly 15 years after release.
Alongside the sales figures, Re-Logic confirmed that Update 1.4.6 is in development and will introduce cross-play support. Additional content updates are also planned after that release.
The studio also announced a physical collector’s edition tied to the anniversary, with more details expected in June. A new behind-the-scenes book, Terraria: Design Works, created with Lost In Cult, will open for pre-orders on 28 May.
Terraria is currently available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One.
