In a rare sit-down interview with Variety India, actor Salman Khan spoke about the moments that shaped him, from terrifying stunts and career-defining friendships, to discipline, family and instinct.
One of the most prominent stars in the Indian entertainment industry, Salman’s work in films such as Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger continues to remind audiences why he remains one of Indian cinema’s biggest crowd-pullers across generations.
Salman shared that he slipped on gravel during the stunt, his hair grazed a rock, and he suffered a near-fatal fall. However, he stated that he could not back out because everyone had gathered to watch the jump, and it had become a matter of ego for him.
The Dabangg actor also opened up about his first major splurge, a Rolex watch he bought for his father despite not having enough money at the time. He revealed that his father later returned the watch to him, making it a sentimental gift. “If you see me wearing a watch, those aren’t always mine. They belong to friends; I take them to try on, wear, and then they go back to them,” he shared.
He further revealed that whenever he feels confused about a script, he discusses it with his father first. “I always take it to him. Whatever he says, I do that,” Salman shared.
Further, the actor discussed the secret behind his success, admitting that he does not believe anyone truly knows the formula for stardom. “I don’t know, and I don’t think anyone would,” he said, adding that people often credit hard work, discipline, lifestyle or choosing the right scripts, but “you never know what your fans like or dislike.”
Salman concluded by saying that people should trust their instincts and move forward with projects they genuinely believe in, while ensuring their decisions are morally, ethically and emotionally aligned.
