Woman dies in roof collapse

A woman lost her life while two others suffered critical injuries after the roof of a dilapidated house veranda collapsed in Kot Addu on Sunday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

According to them, the weakened veranda roof suddenly caved in, trapping members of a family under the debris.

Rescue teams reached the site and launched efforts to retrieve the victims from the rubble before shifting them to a nearby hospital.

The deceased was identified as Sidra Munir, while a woman aged 42 and Abeerah Munir, 23, were injured. Both were stated to be in critical condition, the rescue officials said.

Initial reports suggested that the roof was in a severely deteriorated condition, which may have caused the collapse.

Sources said the affected family had recently purchased the house.

The incident cast a pall of gloom over the locality and a large number of residents gathered at the site following the collapse. Authorities were investigating the incident.
