Awami Tehreek slams proposed 28th amendment
The Awami Tehreek has strongly criticised the proposed 28th constitutional amendment, alleging it is part of a broader "conspiracy" to divide Sindh, as the party prepared for a major public gathering scheduled for June 7 in Jungshahi.
A meeting of the Awami Tehreek's central organising committee for the death anniversary of party founder and intellectual Rasul Bux Palejo was held at Palejo House in Qasimabad, Hyderabad, under the chairmanship of central president Advocate Waseem Thari. The meeting reviewed preparations for the upcoming event, with various committees presenting progress reports.
Addressing the meeting, Waseem Thari said the anniversary gathering would not only pay tribute to Rasul Bux Palejo but also serve as a strong protest platform representing the Sindhi nation. He announced that party workers, peasants, labourers, students and teachers from across Sindh would gather in Jungshahi on June 7.
He said the rally would highlight issues including alleged imperialism, resource exploitation, artificial water shortages, inflation, and violence against women. Reiterating his stance on water distribution, Thari demanded the immediate closure of the Chashma-Jhelum and Taunsa-Panjnad link canals, insisting Sindh must be given its due share of water.
He also termed the proposed 28th constitutional amendment a "conspiracy against Sindh," alleging that the Pakistan Peoples Party was facilitating efforts to divide the province through it.
Thari further criticised rising inflation and alleged government mismanagement, claiming that public health funds were being misused. Citing a World Health Organization report, he said maternal mortality rates in Sindh were higher than in other parts of the country and called it a "government failure."
