GDA alleges PPP behindrising drug menace
The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) on Sunday expressed serious concern over rising narcotics use in Sindh, alleging the provincial government's involvement in the drug trade and demanding an indiscriminate crackdown on dealers and their facilitators.
The concerns were voiced during a key consultative meeting held at Raja House under the chairmanship of GDA chief Pir Sahib Pagara. The meeting reviewed the political situation in Sindh and the country, along with important national and provincial issues.
Prominent leaders, including Pir Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashdi, Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Dr Safdar Abbasi, Ayaz Latif Palijo, Syed Zain Shah and others, attended the session.
Participants said the provincial government had "completely failed" to curb narcotics, warning that the growing menace was pushing the youth towards destruction. They called for across-the-board action against those involved in the trade.
Discussing the local government system, the GDA leaders said Sindh lacked a genuine grassroots setup, adding that the absence of administrative and financial powers at the lower tier had deprived citizens of basic facilities. They stressed the need for an empowered local government system in line with Article 140-A of the Constitution.
The meeting also took up the issue of administrative restructuring in Sindh, including the creation of new divisions and units. While terming reforms necessary for improved governance, the leaders categorically rejected any move towards the division of Sindh.
