MQM-P termstorching of village'blatant terrorism'
The members of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan have strongly condemned the shocking incident in Jacobabad, where an entire village was set on fire over a dispute related to marriage at will. They described the act as 'blatant terrorism', a failure of law enforcement, and a grave violation of human rights.
In a joint statement, the lawmakers said that punishing an entire village and dozens of families for the personal decisions of a few individuals is an extremely brutal and inhumane act. Forcing innocent children, women, and elderly people to live without shelter is a matter of serious concern for the Sindh government and police.
They further stated, if homes can be set ablaze in broad daylight and the perpetrators remain at large even days after the incident, it raises serious questions about the writ of the government. Feudal dominance, tribal revenge, and lawlessness in Sindh have made life increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens, they added.
The MQM-P lawmakers demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved and strict punishment for the perpetrators. They also called for urgent financial assistance and housing for the affected families, along with effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future. They reiterated that MQM-P would continue to raise its voice for the oppressed and pursue justice for the affected families at every available forum.
