MQM-P, PPP trade barbs
A heated political exchange erupted on Friday after Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi launched a scathing attack on the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government, accusing it of corruption, poor governance and administrative failure across Sindh.
Addressing a press conference at the Sindh Assembly, the MQM-P leader said the province had remained under the rule of one party for the last 18 years, yet basic issues facing the public remained unresolved. He alleged widespread corruption in the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), claiming officials paid millions of rupees for postings and calling for a forensic audit into examination processes and alleged paper leaks.
Khurshidi also criticised the government over water shortages in Karachi, alleged corruption in solar energy projects and the wheat scandal, saying the public continued to suffer while authorities failed to act. He claimed the people of Sindh were being deprived of basic rights and accused the government of failing to improve water supply despite years in power.
He also questioned the performance of provincial ministers and warned that the upcoming provincial budget would offer "false promises" instead of practical relief.
Reacting to the remarks, PPP leader Imdad Pitafi accused Khurshidi of spreading "lies and political hatred." He said MQM-P leaders should remember their past before criticising the Sindh government, referring to Karachi's history of violence, extortion and unrest.
Pitafi further said that the opposition was attempting to gain political mileage through baseless allegations instead of offering constructive solutions to public issues. He defended the PPP government's performance, saying billions of rupees were being spent on roads, hospitals and schools across Sindh.
