DJ Akademiks trolled online after meeting Drake for the first time amid ‘ICEMAN’ rollout

Akademiks uploaded images to social media of him meeting Drake and wearing an OVO chain gifted by him in Toronto

DJ Akademiks became the subject of widespread online trolling after posting photos with Drake following their first in-person meeting ahead of the release of the rapper’s new albums ICEMAN, Habibti and Maid of Honour.

According to reports shared on May 15, Akademiks uploaded images to social media showing himself alongside Drake in Toronto after appearing in the rapper’s ICEMAN Episode 4 livestream.

The media personality was also seen wearing an OVO owl chain gifted to him by Drake during the visit.

OVO, short for October’s Very Own, is Drake’s record label and lifestyle brand, with the owl logo becoming closely associated with the Canadian artist over the years.

Speaking during a livestream on Rumble, Akademiks explained that Drake personally presented him with the chain during a dinner meeting after filming his cameo appearance. He said he initially believed the package contained merchandise before discovering the jewellery inside.

“I f**king start opening it and I'm thinking it's merch, I promise, I'm thinking it's like some OVO T-shirt,” Akademiks said. “I opened the shit and I see the chain and I even ask him, ‘What is this?’ He's like, ‘Bro, this is yours.’”

Akademiks also claimed Drake thanked him for remaining loyal throughout recent controversies and public disputes involving the rapper.

The photos and clips quickly circulated across social media, where many users mocked Akademiks over his long-standing public support for Drake. Several viral reactions accused the streamer of being overly devoted to the rapper.

One user wrote, “Drake finally let him stand next to him,” while another posted, “This is the best day of his life, he's going to pin this photo up in his room.”
