Amazon MGM Studios has officially confirmed that the search for the next James Bond is now underway, marking a major update for the long-running 007 franchise.
According to Variety, the studio has begun auditioning actors for the iconic role following months of speculation surrounding who will succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. The upcoming film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, best known for Dune, Blade Runner 2049, and Arrival.
In a statement released on May 14, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios acknowledged the ongoing casting process but declined to reveal specific details about potential candidates.
“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” the studio said.
The announcement confirms that the franchise is moving forward under Amazon MGM’s leadership after continued industry discussion about the future direction of Bond following Craig’s final appearance in No Time to Die.
The report also revealed that acclaimed casting director Nina Gold has joined the project to oversee the search for the next actor to portray 007. Gold is widely known for her work on major productions including Game of Thrones, The Crown, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Martian, and Conclave.
Although several actors have been rumoured for the role in recent months, no official frontrunner has been confirmed by the studio.
The next James Bond film is expected to begin a new era for the franchise as fans await further casting announcements and production updates in the coming months.
