‘Grown Ups 3’ finally confirmed at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning
Netflix has officially confirmed development of Grown Ups 3, marking the long anticipated return of Adam Sandler’s ensemble comedy franchise. The announcement establishes the project as a major new entry in Sandler’s ongoing creative partnership with the streamer, which has already produced multiple original films and legacy sequels.
The third instalment brings back key creative figures from the franchise’s history. Adam Sandler is co writing the screenplay with longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, continuing a partnership that has shaped much of his filmography over the past three decades. Direction will be handled by Kyle Newacheck, known for his work on Sandler’s Netflix projects including Murder Mystery and Happy Gilmore 2, reinforcing the streamer’s consistent in house creative network around the actor.
While casting has not been officially confirmed, there is strong expectation that the core ensemble from the previous films may return, including Chris Rock, David Spade, Kevin James and Rob Schneider alongside Sandler. However, Netflix has not issued formal confirmation regarding returning cast members, and production details remain in early stages.
The original Grown Ups, released in 2010, became a major commercial success, earning more than $270m globally and cementing itself as one of Sandler’s highest grossing live action comedies. Its 2013 sequel followed with similarly strong box office performance, reinforcing the franchise’s appeal as a family focused, ensemble driven comedy series built around themes of friendship, nostalgia and adulthood.
The storyline traditionally centres on a group of childhood friends reuniting with their families for chaotic, humour driven gatherings. The films have featured a wide supporting cast across both instalments, including Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi and others, contributing to their broad comedic appeal.
Sandler’s ongoing relationship with Netflix has been one of the platform’s most successful creative partnerships. Under his multi film deal, he has released a range of original titles including Leo, Hubie Halloween and Murder Mystery, alongside continued expansion of established franchises. Grown Ups 3 continues that strategy of combining nostalgia driven properties with streaming-first distribution.
Producers on the new film include Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo and Tim Herlihy, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull serving as executive producers. While a release timeline has not been announced, the project is positioned as a major comedy feature within Netflix’s future slate, signalling continued investment in established comedic brands and ensemble driven storytelling.
