CHAKWAL:

The alleged misuse of painkillers and sedative medicines has surfaced across the district, with reports indicating that some youths are using these drugs as intoxicants.

According to information, certain individuals are mixing these medicines with cold and energy drinks to consume them as a form of substance abuse. Local sources said the trend is not limited to addicts but is also being observed among some students and young people.

It was reported that painkillers and sedatives manufactured by various companies, typically available in the form of tablets, capsules, or injections, are being misused by mixing them into beverages.

Residents said that such medicines, in doses ranging from 100mg to 300mg, can easily be obtained from medical stores, increasing the likelihood of misuse.

They warned that this practice could pose serious health risks to the younger generation.

Public circles have urged the relevant authorities to strictly enforce the ban on the sale of such medicines without a doctor's prescription and to ensure effective monitoring of medical stores to curb their misuse.
