Demi Moore believes the film industry should adapt to artificial intelligence rather than try to stop it, warning that resisting the technology is “a battle that we will lose.”
Speaking at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival jury press conference, Moore said AI is already transforming the entertainment business and that Hollywood needs to focus on how to use it responsibly.
“AI is here,” Moore said. “To fight it is a battle that we will lose. To find ways in which we can work with it.”
At the same time, the Oscar-nominated actress acknowledged that the industry may not be doing enough to protect artists and creators from the risks associated with artificial intelligence.
“To your question of, are we doing enough to protect ourselves? I don’t know the answer to that. My inclination would be to say probably not,” Moore said.
Moore stressed that while AI can be a useful tool, it cannot replicate the emotional and spiritual qualities that define great art.
She said there is “nothing to fear” because technology can never replace “what true art comes from,” adding that creativity ultimately originates from “the soul” and “the spirit.”
The actress is serving on this year’s Cannes jury, led by Park Chan-wook, alongside members including Chloé Zhao, Ruth Negga, and Stellan Skarsgård.
Moore’s comments come as the entertainment industry continues to debate how artificial intelligence should be used in filmmaking, from script development and visual effects to performance generation and copyright protections.
Her remarks reflect a growing consensus in Hollywood that AI is likely to become a permanent part of the creative process, but that human experience and artistic expression remain irreplaceable.
